Ishara Perera-Driver

Hi everyone, I'm Ishara and I'm so excited to be running for RUMS Raising & Giving VP!

Charity and volunteering are at the heart of a society such as RUMS. Every one of us, no matter how small our contribution, can make a huge collective impact. If elected, I will strive for RAG to be the best it can be!

As Social Secretary for RUMS Badminton Club and a member of the Events subcommittee for the past two years, I have been involved in many charity events at university. This year alone in RUMS Badminton, we raised over £1000 for Movember and just finished a successful LGBTQ+ History Month campaign. With the experience I have gained, alongside my strong leadership and organisational skills, I believe that I am adept for this role.

My main goals:

More RAG events throughout the year:

• More varied and frequent events e.g.
  • RUMS Got Talent
  • A RUMS Fair with games, food and drink
  • Inter-society charity tournaments
  • 24h fundraisers and more!

Promoting intersectionality and inclusivity in fundraising:

• Collective charity efforts between sports, arts and education societies in RUMS with a charity of the month
• Volunteering opportunities across the Medical School for all year groups to get involved in

Emphasising the student voice:

• Regular feedback on which charities our student body believes we should focus on and how we can improve
