My name is Maddie Fairbank and I am a 1st year undergrad student in Social Sciences. Before coming to university I knew I wanted to join the netball society however I had my doubts as to whether or not I would feel welcome. It is safe to say my anxieties were immediately put to rest from the first ‘back to netball session’. Katie has done an amazing job at making everyone feel welcome and included. She has created a family – like culture in which all ability netball players have an opportunity to involve themselves. This society has been a source of stability and sisterhood in an uncertain, tumultuous time as the first few weeks of university can be. I applaud the community she has created and as President I only wish to further expand and accentuate this. For me the most important values I wish to focus on as President to the netball society is inclusion and support. I wish to emphasize as a leader that while netball is not only a place to scratch that competitive sporting itch we all have, we are a club focused on the emotional support of our players.

On a more day to day basis, I would suggest holding more weekly casual daytime events for everyone in both social and competitive netball to mix and strengthen the support system within the netball society. This year our social secs have done a great job at providing a variety of fun events in which all of us can throw ourselves into and I only wish to expand on more accessible events by working with the team to provide day time activities such as a running club,
