Hi everyone, my name is Hana and I’m running for Language Director.

I’ve really enjoyed the past two years as a member and teacher in Jsoc, and am always amazed by the enthusiasm of both students and teachers during lessons. I believe the quality and scale of the language lessons really sets Japan Society apart, and I’d love the opportunity to contribute to this initiative using my ideas and experience.

Strengths:

  • Spending 2 years as a teacher in Japan Society and speaking to a wide range of students and members, I have a thorough idea of the strengths and weaknesses in the lessons and language events.
  • As a subcommittee member, I helped run Nihongo Nights and many other cultural and social events. I have a solid understanding of how Japanese lessons are organised, meaning as Language Director I’d be able to keep these initiatives running smoothly.

Goals:

  • Work with the language officers to improve feedback for lessons and events
  • Facilitate teachers’ dinners and rewards - to show appreciation for volunteers
  • Continue with Nihongo Night
  • Create a Jsoc instagram highlight - so students can see what was covered each week and to give insight into what the lessons are like
  • Give more notice to teachers before free lessons and help with making slides

I hope to make language lessons even more enjoyable for both students and teachers next year.
