The Society has been a wonderful chance to connect with other students for an important cause, and I have seen in myself and in others the benefits which it brings into its members’ lives. I am standing for Welfare Officer because it is important to me that everyone in this society feels like it is a safe place to come and connect with others as well as to help children around the world. It’s important to feel comfortable bringing up any concerns one may have in the society, and I will always be someone to whom you can speak confidentially and with the confidence that I will help you with any concerns you may have or address them more broadly within the society itself. One of UCL’s greatest strengths is being such a diverse university, and with this comes the responsibility of helping everyone feel prioritised and included. I plan to proactively seek ways to make our society a place where everyone feels welcomed and appreciated, and will consistently check in on our members as well as make our meetings and events comfortable, safe, and fun for everyone. In secondary school, I was on the Model United Nations committee, and often helped my classmates whenever they had an issue with the society, whether it was feeling disconnected from the group or being nervous about an upcoming conference to which we were travelling. I was consistently able to find solutions that made them feel more comfortable and know I can do the same with the Society.
