Despite being a person of African/ European heritage, I believe that my association with other cultures should not be bound to societies that I have the closest proximity to. If we are to truly live in a multi-cultural society then it is a neccesity to explore cultures that exist within the periphery of our everyday realities in order to fundamentally broaden the limits of our humanity, and it is for this reason that I nominate myself to be the research analyst for the Global China Study society. China is one the most powerful nations in the world today, so I have always had a naturally curiousity towards China's history and current state through my Extended Project Qualifications. However, while most people within the West have become used to the fact that their global relationships now extend to great superpowers in the East such as China, there is still a fundamental juxtaposition in Chinese discourse surrounding the relationship between those pf black descent and East Asia. It is the contrast of both identities that fuels my passion and motivation to continue learning about Chinese culture in an appreciative and respectful manner. As research analyst I would make it my sacred duty to make sure that those who have no awareness of Chinese society can be introduced to its culture without succumbing to toxic, orientalised interpretations of China, encouraging a positive global community for all.
