Hi!
As a 1st-gen immigrant, and a woman, financial literacy was not something my parents taught me growing up. Sadly, it wasn’t something my academic institutions taught me growing up either, especially since I’m now studying a Humanities degree.
So, I'm taking my financial education into my own hands.
I know many students can relate to my experience in one way or another. Thus, I believe it is of paramount importance to create a space to support students like you and I on our personal finance journey.
As FLM's 1st President, I aim to:
- Overcome institutional/structural barriers
- Focus on accessibility & representation for students of all backgrounds & degrees (especially minority ethnic, gender-marginalised, non-STEM)
- Foster education
- Simplify coded finance jargon & concepts
- Debunk common money misconceptions
- Unlearn 'lack' mindsets
- Organise practical workshops
- Investing 101
- Budgeting 101
- Launch volunteering project
- Financially educating gender-marginalised/minority ethnic/state school students
- Collaborate with other UCL socs for events
My credentials/skills:
- PR Team Lead | POC Network's Ball Committee - event management, communication
- Chair | My school's 'Minority Students Union' - EDI, leadership
- Avid learner of financial education (books/podcasts/research)
Finances plays an undeniable role in shaping our life, and I'm excited to create a legacy for FLM that empowers you to take control of your own financial journey!
