Hi everyone! I am Amelia Tai, currently a first-year BSc Biomedical Sciences student. I am running for vice president of the UCL Dementia Research Society. My interest lies in the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s and the potential applications of stem cell therapies to slow down symptom progression. I believe in the importance of bridging the gap between research and treatment delivery to patients through scientific communication. I am passionate about driving positive changes in this society; I aspire to improve the accessibility of information related to dementia research by widening the scope of the events offered such as article-writing and networking sessions to give members the experiences they seek. I have extensive experience in project planning in various team settings where I collaborated with members and external parties. My experience as a vice organising chairperson for a previous fundraising event has developed my leadership skills; I facilitated active discussions with the members. I am confident in guiding the committee in the right direction to achieve our objectives in extensively promoting education on dementia research by venturing into new areas and opportunities for members. These experiences taught me the value of positive team dynamics. Thus, I aim to cultivate a sense of community within the organisation where everyone is motivated to contribute to.
