Hi, I’m Punn and I would love to be your Welfare Officer this year!
Navigating your way through Medical School can be stressful especially readjusting back to in-person exams and lectures after many years of being online. Mental health is an important cause often overlooked and I hope to spread more awareness and opportunities that will improve the well-being of our society members!
My experiences with welfare involved working as a UCL Student Support and Wellbeing Ambassador during welcome week, being a transition mentor and a part RUMS Welfare subcommittee!
Some ideas I would like to propose include:
- Charity dessert decoration (cookies/cakes)
Not only does this provide the opportunity to socialize and destress, but attendees can also gain satisfaction from partaking in a good cause.
Mindfulness workshop
- Introducing mindfulness to members and providing a safe space for people to meet over refreshments
Events during Welfare Week
- Collaborating with RUMS/surgical society
- Inviting mental health professionals/doctors to talk about pressure and establishing a good work-life balance
These are just a few suggestions for the potential welfare activities MedSoc can run! I’m open to other recommendations and is here if anyone wants to talk about wellbeing
I want to continue making a valuable contribution to Medical Society having taken on roles such as Vice Chair of Neurology and 2nd year Rep for General Medicine in the past. Thank you and I hope to have your vote!
