Olivia Matthews

Hi, my name is Olivia and I’m applying to be your General Secretary next year! I am standing as I believe I am well organised, having kept up with taking 5 modules in my first term alongside joining new societies and adjusting to university life. I am a friendly and outgoing person, which I think would make me a good representative for both the geographical society and geography department overall.

This year I have been one of the first year representatives on the geography department SSCC. This has allowed me to gain confidence in speaking with a wide range of people to collect feedback and relay this across to academic staff.

Previously, I have volunteered to represent my college in open days for prospective students, acting as part of a team to be welcoming, approachable, and informative. When I was deciding whether to study at UCL, I really benefited from the departmental offer holder day I attended- it actually made me choose to confirm my choice to study here. Because of this I am enthusiastic about organising these in future, and would love to share my experiences with prospective students and their parents.

If possible, I would also love to incorporate more engagement for offer holders not able to attend any in-person events, such as online Q&As with students in the department.
