Having been entrusted with leadership roles in the past, I believe I would be a suitable Events Director. Helping run Open Days for prospective Sixth Form students and leading the Sixth Form Geography Society as Geography Representative helped establish my ability to develop positive relationships with staff members and students to ensure a successful outcome.

My interpersonal skills and organisational skills would be useful for this role as it requires liaising with speakers and academics as well as alumni and conversation panel members. Maintaining a high level of communication and teamwork would be important.

Something I would be keen to introduce is a (bi-)monthly event whereby we would build a network of experienced and skilled figures, who studied Geography or a similar discipline, to speak about their respective fields of work; what they do, how they got to where they are, and what they aim to achieve in the future using their geographical discipline, to help guide attendees and build networks proactively. These could be people in NGOs, humanitarian organisations, conservation, consulting, diplomacy, etc. Since the workplace is increasing challenging to enter, and it is getting more competitive, this could be a successful way for UCL students to engage with real-world geographies and develop their own path into a career.

Other events would likely include speaker panels, Q&A sessions, and other social events which could be both engaging and informative.
