Global surgery is a field of medicine I am immensely passionate about and believe is an aspect of surgery that requires more attention, especially after the pandemic has shown us the importance of a collaborative, integrated international surgical community. I particularly understood the differences in how surgery is conducted in different countries while volunteering in a hospital in India and am keen for more medical students to develop an interest in global surgical practises. I have been part of the Global Surgery subcommittee for 2 years now which leads me to believe I would be well suited to the job, as well as holding the position of Treasurer for the Students for Global Health Society. Additionally, I have been involved in numerous Model WHO conferences, written policy documents on global health and been involved in the organisation of various schemes and events as part of the mentorship division of WiNS, the pre-clinical education subcommittee for Medical Society and logistics co-ordinator for the 2020 Art in Anatomy Exhibition. As the global surgery chair, I would like to organise more fundraising events, collaborate with other societies, arrange research schemes and advertise opportunities to volunteer internationally if possible! Additionally, I have been planning an event this year to have a panel discussion between leading professors of surgery from the UK and India and believe thus would be an event that all our members would enjoy greatly!
