I’m most known for getting too drunk and being hungover. Therefore, I have the greatest experience at looking after people in that same position! On a more serious note, I undertook a ski orientated welfare course as part of my instructor training. In terms of moving forward I’d like to implement more beginner orientated socials/training days as the sport of skiing can be quite intimidating and elitist to those not involved in it, and I would take active steps to change this image in our community. One of the charities I’d look at supporting is Protect Our Winters. As well as focusing on the climate effect the snowsports industry has and how we can reduce this, POW work closely with several events. One of these is the Mighty Coe festival hosted at Glen Coe ski resort in Scotland. This is a weekend of apres, ski courses, ski testing, food and drink found at one of 4 ski resorts in the UK. I’d like to look at the possibility of our society attending this festival next year, supporting UK snowsports, a great charity and taking part in an experience usually reserved for the alps. Non-drinking daytime socials would be implemented to provide alternatives for the ski community and provide options for those who don’t drink. I’d like to host fundraiser socials to raise money for the club; this could involve organised parties or other daytime activities that would include a small fee which would go towards making training and competitions cheaper and more accessible.
