Being in a foreign country is often distressing, uncomfortable and lonely. Having to leave friends and family behind in Singapore is very difficult, and making new friends isn’t always an easy task. The various Singsoc events have eased the difficult transition, helping me form new connections and find a home away from home. Orientation was especially helpful, allowing me to not just make new friends, but also to interact with seniors who gave me advice regarding academic matters. The various kiasu guides also smoothened the process of completing the complex and oftentimes confusing pre-uni checklists.

These Singsoc events and initiatives were immensely helpful, and spurred my desire to contribute, such that the next batch of freshmen could enjoy the same experience. I wish to contribute through planning and being involved in these events, and as the Treasurer, I will be able to ensure they are carried out smoothly.

Organising events is something I have experience with and enjoy greatly, having done so while holding various leadership positions throughout my educational journey. Perhaps most relevant to the position of Treasurer would be my experience as the secretary of the Chinese Orchestra in secondary school, where I did budgeting and logistics. I gained valuable experience from organising orchestra camps and concerts, which would allow me to better contribute to Singsoc.
