Hi, I’m Ley and I’d love to help SSEES Soc run by becoming events officer :)

SSEES society is unique as it’s departmental & topical. That must be acknowledged by an events officer, so all members are catered to at events. As such, I’d run…

  • Department community events: Of all the UCL societies I joined, SSEES events like karaoke or ice skating have been the most welcoming and fun. The recent donation drive show we have a wonderful community here so social events to keep that going are a must.
  • Career based events: SSEES soc can be a valuable space for networking & gaining familiarity with various industries. For example, the embassy visits helped me to better understand their purpose & work out if they’re somewhere I’d consider employment – definitely a type of event I want to run next year!
  • Academic events: SSEES has an unparalleled range of knowledge and, in London, we’re in the best place for guest speakers. Events I’ve enjoyed the most have been niche, topical discussions -like Richard Mole’s LGBT talk last month - so they’d be a  focus of mine. Also as someone focusing their studies on the Balkans, a more overlooked part of the region, I would make sure we draw on all aspects of study at SSEES so events welcome & include all regional interests.

I’ve experience in planning & running events after being a Girl Guiding leader, thus I’m used to listening to and taking onboard other people’s suggestions.
