Daivi Shah

Hi I’m Daivi and I would like to be your President. Ever since first year, coming into medical school during COVID times, the RUMS Music community has supported me with tutorials, socials, advice, friendship and kindness. This current year, I thoroughly enjoyed being Publicity Officer, advertising the amazing events and tutorials RUMS Music has put on and learning about how the society is run.

If elected as President, I would like to propose the following:

  • Reinstate the RUMS Music Buddy scheme which I found to be extremely helpful in my first year
  • Continue to help run tutorials and fun socials such as quizzes, karaoke, dinners, picnics, movie nights and more
  • Perhaps hold a musical cultural showcase, working with cultural societies to reflect the music of the numerous cultures present at UCL
  • Now that COVID restrictions are easing, I would love to help increase our engagement at hospitals and the community
  • In one of the concerts, I would love to organise all the groups to perform a least one song as it has been done in the past
  • Look into creating a wind band with a punny name of course!

I believe I am well organised, resilient and passionate about RUMS Music and I would like to continue the amazing work that has already been done, take on more responsibility and expand the society so that more people can reap its benefits :)

Daniel J Ly

Since 2018, I’ve seen how RUMS Music has grown, and I’d like to help it grow further as President. Over the past few years, I’ve been on several committees; I understand the pressures other roles have - and how to effectively support them. Also, I’d like to hold more socials, such as quiz nights and bake-offs! Furthermore, I’d also like to encourage more advocacy and charity work – with one idea being each group ‘advocating’ for a charity, and competing to fundraise the most money over the academic year. I am always open to new ideas, and I hope to be your President for 2022-23.

Joshua Ferreira

My name’s Josh – I’m a second-year medic, and I’ve got really fab plans for RUMS Music next year! I’m part of the lovely Heartstrings ensemble and I’m running for President. Here’s why I reckon I’d be a good fit:

  • This year I’ve been Treasurer of RUMS Music - I’ve liaised closely with the President Jonathan multiple times and I know how to handle union queries as I’ve submitted more never-ending forms than I can count over the past year!
  • I’m a grad medic and I spent 3 years doing a BSc at King’s (booo King’s – yes, I know!). I was a member of GKT Music Society and was Secretary in 2019/20 – I therefore have a track-record of organising rehearsals and concerts well, and I am meticulously organised
  • I’m motivated – we need another massive recruitment drive at the start of next year, and I’ll always be enthusiastic about RUMS Music because I love it so much!
  • I want us to do more spontaneous performances - in addition to our bi-annual concerts, I’d love for us to perform in hospitals and care homes around London to bring joy to other people’s lives. Making music makes me so so happy and sharing that feeling of euphoria with others would be amazing!
  • I’m dependable - this year I’ve secured RUMS Music sweatshirts for the society (designed, ordered, distributed) and I’ve submitted many many finance approvals on-time. I’m a reliable person who has so much love for this society and would love to lead committee next year!
