My name is Jasmine and I'm in my first year of medicine. Personally, I am deeply interested in both the cutting edge developing technologies and ethical issues surrounding the use of these technologies in medicine. This curiosity and fascination will motivate me to do my best as events officer, whilst also taking in and acting on any suggestions for specific topics, speakers or activities that people would be interested in. My long-standing interest in medical technologies has also enabled me to build relationships with people who are within this field and who we could invite to events in the next academic year.

I believe that technology such as artificial intelligence, robotics and wearables is the future of medicine and the key to 'humanising' medicine - returning empathy and humanity into medical care. In order to achieve this, I feel it is paramount that awareness of these technologies is spread as widely as possible, both outside of and within the medical field. Currently, one of the main barriers standing against implementation of such technologies is resistance not only from the public who are understandably worried about security and safety, but also from medical professionals who fear that these technologies will take over their jobs. As events officer, I would aim to foster a sense of cooperation instead of competition with medtech, as well as ensure everyone simultaneously enjoys the events, and can take away knowledge and skills by the end.
