My avidity and passion for sports wants me to improve on the sporting community amongst the members in MSoc. I understand the joy which comes along sporting activities and I would love to work on upping the frequency of sporting sessions while also increasing intercollegiate activities as well. I’d also like to bring up UCL’s presence during the Malaysian games by bringing in more sports teams alongside a supportive crowd. Of course those are the issues which I currently see, so do bring up any of your issues as I’d most probably relate and understand :)

Yu Hong Law

Hi! I am applying for Sports Director of the Malaysian Society. I love doing sports, and I participate in many different sports, from badminton to softball to skiing. My primary sport is football, and I have devoted a lot of time into it, winning numerous international tournaments whilst playing with teams like Stoke City Shanghai Academy. I have experience leading teams, organising events and liaising with external contacts, as I was the Sports Prefect and Varsity Team Vice Captain for my college. With these experiences, I can effectively manage sports throughout MSoc, by collaborating with other societies like SingSoc, and with other universities across the UK for the MGames and London Games.

I have also envisioned comprehensive goals. Firstly, I aim to guarantee frequent participation in all sports in MSoc. Sessions will happen weekly, and I will ensure we participate in at least 1 MGame per term, where I will handle administration for all players participating with us. Secondly, I firmly advocate a healthy environment to maximise enjoyment. Sportsmanship and equal playtime is assured. Thirdly, I strive to increase exposure and participation in E-Sports, by regularly promoting and maintaining online communities like Discord servers.

With my previous leadership experiences, regular participation in sports and comprehensive and feasible goals, I am immensely passionate about running for Sports Director and strongly believe I am well suited for this role.

Tan Hong Aik

I am running for Sports Director, as I believe the best way to release stress is to enjoy sports with friends. I aim to increase student participation in frequent social sporting sessions. There are a wide variety of sports, and they will all have weekly sessions, so that students who show genuine interest in less popular sports can thrive. I strongly believe that I have great leadership skills as I was the House Captain for my secondary school, and the House Vice Captain for my college. This is useful when I manage collaborations with other societies in other universities (such as the Singapore Society), and coordinating with each MSoc sport's captains to hold weekly social sessions. With past experiences of organising sporting events, I can collaborate between universities all around the UK for MGames, as well as within London for the London Games. I aim to participate and send teams to at least 1 MGame per term to involve as many students as possible. I would carry out all the registration processes to make it easier for participants to join, unless they want to register privately. I play a wide range of sports and am particularly proficient in football and basketball, both participating internationally in China, Vietnam, Thailand, as well as around the UK in Bath, Newcastle and Loughborough. Thus, with my knowledge and previous experiences, I believe I can coordinate with the sport's captains and ensure all tournaments and sessions run smoothly.
