Hello everyone! I’m Michelle, a 2nd year Neuroscience student and I’m running to be your academic officer this year! My key areas of interest are ageing and its attendant diseases which include Dementia, as well as its comorbidities and other neurodegenerative disorders. I joined the society last year to find out more about dementia and also to connect with others with similar interests. This year, I would like to be part of the committee that creates opportunities for members by organising events which will enhance our academic understanding of dementia and allow more member engagement and contribution.

Why me:

  • I have already organised academic events including talks on ‘neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s and Down Syndrome’ (in collaboration with UCL Neuroscience Society) and synaptic vulnerability in Dementia (PhD research from Imperial College London) - so make sure to keep an eye out for those!
  • Plans I have for future events include: journal clubs, academic writing opportunities for members to be featured in our newsletters, networking events, collaborations with other societies within and outside of UCL, more talks from professors in different areas of dementia research e.g. FTD, cognitive impairment, microglia
  • I welcome ideas and suggestions for future events from everyone in the society so feel free to contact me at [email protected]
