As an interim-training officer, I was told that COVID brought our society to its knees. Though a shadow of its former self, all I see here is opportunity. The opportunity to rebuild better than before.

We hold the power to shape UCLUNA's future, starting with our vote.

In my 6 years of MUN, I've had the privilege to attend dozens of conferences as a delegate, chair and secretariat. I saw schools that would do anything in an attempt to sweep awards and schools that were just there for vacation. While admirable, that level of blinded competitiveness or apathy always felt wrong.

I don't want our society to be a toxically competitive cesspool of narcissists, nor the jokesters of MUN. Instead, I want us to be R.A.U.R.

My duty to you is to make UCLUNA: Respected, Admired, United and Resolute (RAUR).

I want others to respect our dedication to MUN as seen through our training and in turn performance in committees. I want us to win awards through lifting others up not pushing others down. We are diplomats, not savages.

I want delegations to admire our society, something that should be a source of pride for all of us.

To do this, we must be united as a society, and recognize that our strengths are each other.

Finally, we must be resolute and determined to become the change and success that we know we can be.

As your first year representative your voice will be heard. We will march together onwards to victory. I will work tirelessly to ensure that together we can R.A.U.R.

Josh Mills

I am standing to be First Year Rep for the UCL UN Society because I have enjoyed my time at the society so far and believe it is a vibrant and enjoyable community. Therefore I feel a duty to attempt to spread this feeling to everyone who partakes in the society particularly any fellow first years that may feel apprehensive about the society and what it entails.

As someone new to the MUN scene at university, I am in a perfect position to support my fellow first years  with things such as training and conferences. Additionally, I am very interested in providing ideas about making the UN society even better including ideas about socials as well as additional events that could be put on to foster an even greater community feel in the society.

I believe that I can work well on a committee and have met many of the already well-established members of the UN committee which puts me in good stead to have my ideas and any ideas put to me by fellow first years forward to the committee. Finally, I am committed to attending most conferences and events that the United Nations Society puts on and thus intend to be a permanent and reliable member of the Society. Hopefully, this will allow all members of the society to get to know me on a personal level and feel comfortable to share any concerns or issues with me.

Ted Yip

Dear UCLUNA members,

I'm excited to nominate myself for the position of First Year Representative. I may be new to MUN, but I bring fresh perspectives and a commitment to serving our society!

Allow me to highlight a few experiences that demonstrate my capabilities. As the founder of Musicate, a student organization promoting musical literacy, I successfully led my team in organizing engaging workshops and online concerts for underprivileged children in Hong Kong. Furthermore, as Chairperson of St. Paul's Ambulance, I optimized first-aid service provision during ten school events.

I aim to benefit both new and experienced members through the following:

1. Inclusive Engagement

As a newcomer to MUN myself, I understand how helpless you may feel, struggling to understand all the complex jargon being a first-time delegate. I aim to organise MUN101 sessions for beginners, which will cover conference processes and technical terms.

2. Networking Opportunities

MUN is not just about debating; it is also about building connections. I hope to organise networking events, which will provide a platform for members to forge friendships, exchange ideas, and cultivate a sense of camaraderie in UCLUNA.

3. Collaborative Initiatives

I believe the power of 1+1>2. I will continue our work in collaboration with other societies, enabling us to organize joint events and initiatives.

Vote for me as your First Year Representative, and let's shape UCLUNA into a vibrant and fun-filled community!

Timothee Renaudin Nguyen

Being handsome, funny, charismatic and before everything, humble I am presenting myself as I think I would make a good first year representative.

But why would I make a good student representative ?

People need a face, need someone that they can rely on, and what's best than a handsome face to ensure the job.

People also want someone that isn't boring, that knows how to speak and entertain the room. Once again, being naturally funny and eloquent I think that I would fit perfectly.

Finally, student wish to have someone close to them, someone that understand them and that can represent their needs and this especially when you are a first year and when you receive thousands of informations a day which can be confusing. Once again, being a first year too, lazy from times to times, handing in my assignments a few minutes before the deadlines, and having a terrible sleeping schedule, I think that I would be a good first year representative.

On a more serious note, I think I would make a good first year student representative as being a first year too, I know what it feels like to be lost and confused in the middle of all the informations we receive. I share this life too. Furthermore, I have been numerous time a student representative in high school, and I took part to multiple MUNs before thus I know how to listen to other and understand their needs and represent them in the best way possible.

Thank you taking the time to read, have a good day.

I am very excited about this position as it presents an excellent opportunity to acquire new skills and expand my knowledge of MUN. My experience as a beginner in ULMUN and OxIMUN has ignited a strong interest in me to learn more about the world of Model United Nations. As a First-Year Representative, I am confident I can contribute significantly to UCLUNA society by effectively utilising my skills and knowledge. As a Political Science student with a profound interest in International Relations, Model United Nations (MUN) is an incredibly relevant platform for me to pursue my academic and career goals. Through my previous roles as Treasurer and Recruitment Officer in my Debate Society back in Spain (Club de Debate UPO), I have acquired skills in event organisation, teamwork, and accounting, which makes me an ideal candidate for the position of First-Year Representative.

Sophie Chee

My name is Sophie Chee, and I’m a first-year student studying Politics and International Relations. I have been part of my Sixth Form’s MUN for two years, regularly joining sessions and participating in interschool competitions. I joined two interschool MUN conferences as a delegate and chaired my school’s MUN in 2022 as the Head of the Economic and Financial Committee. I understand how difficult and daunting conferences and sessions can be for newcomers and first year students. As a First-Year Rep, I would organise training sessions and simulations for newcomers and first years, to foster an even more encouraging environment, where everyone can have a voice, and encourage people to speak in usual simulation sessions, which would encourage more people to join the society and make it even more accessible.

I also have taken on leadership positions both in my schools in Hong Kong and Sixth Form. In Hong Kong, I have been a prefect for five years, where my role was to serve as a communication channel with teachers. In my Sixth Form in the UK, I was Vice-President of the Eco-Committee in my school, where I organised weekly sessions and meetings on how to make our school more environmentally friendly. This gave me skills in organising events, delegating work and event management. My wish as a first year representative is to be able to represent the first year community and newcomers as much as possible.
