I have really enjoyed being part of the live music society, it's a great place to meet new people, play music and have fun! The society has been improving and evolving and I would love the opportunity to work with next year's committee to help carry on making it even better.

Rhapsody is the highlight of the society's year, so why not do more big events? I would like to organise a battle of the bands between London universities, as well as collaborate with external organisations to put on more gigs and shows in London venues and provide further opportunities to society members. I also think that the society's performances and gig nights should be more heavily promoted within UCL to make them regular events that other students want to come to on a regular basis.

I would like the society to be very inclusive and approachable, from helping musicians meet others who would like to collaborate and play in bands, to organising social events for those who just want to watch live music. There is a wide range of talent in the society, so additional opportunities for workshops could be really useful as well as more opportunities for jamming with people and gaining confidence performing, whether it be a quiet evening in an SU room or an open jam night in Mully's.

I would also create an online form for members to communicate with the president and committee, as I believe suggestions and feedback from members is essential to help the society be what its members want it to be.

Will Kim

Hi, my name is Will, and I am running to be your President!

Being involved with LMS has truly been the highlight of my university experience so far. Getting to know and perform with some of the most friendly, talented, and diverse crowd of people that UCL has to offer has made me eager to further my involvement with the society. If elected President, I would ensure that LMS remains a hub for creativity and a safe space for all.

As Live Music President, my priorities would be the following:

-As musicians and as students, to have access to a conveniently located rehearsal space with equipment that doesn’t drain our wallets in the form of the SPR (Sound-Proof Room) is such a privilege to have. I would like to follow up on the SPR’s recent renovation by opening a booking system which would allow members of LMS to easily access this facility in bookable time slots.

-The best thing about LMS is undoubtedly the people you meet and the sense of community that is fostered over a shared love of music. And so, I will aim to keep the society as welcoming and inclusive as possible to performers and non-performers, newcomers and returning faces alike. I hope to make this possible by making sure the society has an active social media presence, and working closely with the rest of the committee to respond to feedback and concerns.

Thank you for your consideration (and let’s continue the streak of Korean LM Presidents).

Michael Fitzgibbon

Since joining UCL, Live Music has been at the centre of my university experience. I am applying to be president as I believe that I have the skills, knowledge, contacts and experience required to take Live Music at UCL to the next level. I know that with the enormous amount of talent in our society, combined with our location in the world’s greatest musical city, we have a number of future stars within our ranks. I have so many ideas on how to make this happen, by enhancing LMS’ events and structure, whilst reinforcing the social and accessible core that we all know and love. Most notably, I would like to place more emphasis on the development of original artists in our society, and significantly expand the live performance calendar and take it to a much wider audience. Personally, I am incredibly passionate about music; in March, I am playing a headline show at the Notting Hill Arts Club, with a band formed of 6 fellow members. I have been a very active member of LMS, making relationships across all years by playing at Open Mic’s, Mully’s gigs, House Band performances and more. It has also been enjoyable being a committee member, as Fresher Rep this year, which has given me invaluable insight into how the society is run. I have a number of years’ experience directing musical events, from my time at school to leading my band through the recording of an EP in my gap year, and the complete organisation of my upcoming headline show, with 200+ people attending.
