Knitting Society: President

Hey, I’m Ksusha and although I’m a relatively recent member of the KnitSoc (since September), I'm quite hooked (pun intended) on everything that KnitSoc does! 

I’m running for the position because I'd love to participate more in the behind the scenes work that organises all the events for our members. I'm also excited by the opportunity to teach others the wonders of knitting and crochet and spread the word about our cosy community around UCL. 

As the president, I hope to work with the whole committee and make the process of running our society the most organized and efficient. I hope to build on the amazing member experience I had by making our community inclusive and welcoming to everyone since I joined because of the chance to relax and forget about my worries, absorbed in knitting or crochet. That’s why I'd like to spread the word about our society and organise events to promote KnitSoc and make our tight-knit community grow!

I'd also love to continue running our knitting and crochet lessons for beginners and regular socials for advanced members. One thing I want to develop more is our KnitSoc identity and sense of connection: I want to create our own merch. We can make it a community bonding experience, customizing it to represent us best!

Overall, KnitSoc got me addicted to the amazing crafts of knitting and crochet and I'd love to give back by being on the committee and doing my part to make KnitSoc the best experience for its members!

My name is Srishti and I am a 2nd year History, Politics and Economics student and I think I would be an awesome candidate for the Ruler of the Yarniverse. 

During the pandemic, I got into cross-stitching but I realised that I wanted to increase my skill set even more so I looked into Knitting society so I could gain a new hobby. Currently, I attend the beginner lessons and seeing how President Dan has pushed me to become a better knitter makes me want to do that for the next generation of knitters. 

As President, I would help the newbies learn knitting for fun and also as a form of mindfulness, whilst also encouraging the veterans to knit not only for themselves but for other amazing causes, such as the homeless or simply engaging with children to show that knitting is not only for Grandmas but for everyone! Being President would be incredible and such a great opportunity to share experiences with every knitter/crotcheter. 

This role has a lot responsibility but I am up for the challenge!

Hi! I'm Sofia, a 2nd year studying Chemistry. I have been crocheting for over 5 years. I joined KnitSoc at the beginning of 2nd year because I have always wanted to learn how to knit but never could get the hang of it, and now I can finally say I know how to and I love it! I am running for president because knitting and crocheting are one of the only things I find exciting (more than my degree at many times). I have really enjoyed coming along to all of the social events this year and helping some beginner crocheters! At many points the weekly socials have been the highlight of my week as I love being in a group of other people working on their projects, so I have a lot of enthusiasm. KnitSoc has also given me a lot of inspiration for upcoming projects. As president I want to maintain the friendly and relaxed atmosphere there already is and to keep up the knitting and crochet lessons as well as the weekly socials. I also want to encourage more collaborations with other societies (baking and knitting social one day perhaps?) and I would love to have a page, maybe on Pinterest, where everyone can share projects they are working on to give inspiration. I have the time and commitment to attend events at least weekly.
