Aditi Zamvar

Hi! I’m Aditi and I’m a first-year law student, and I will be running for the role of social secretary.

Indian society has played a massive part in my first year at UCL. Through this society, I have managed to meet some amazing people and I would love to be a part of the committee for the following year.

Having been selected as House Captain I worked in a team and was responsible for organizing many different events and coordinating groups of up to 200 students. I also restarted the law society in Year 13 in which I scheduled speakers to come in and give talks. I will be able to use these experiences combined with my social nature to help me in this role.

This are some ideas I hope to bring in the coming year:

  • Keep the families scheme going throughout the year.
  • Organise some inter-university events. There is already a large community of Indians here at UCL and it would be a way to build an even bigger community for students in London.
  • Introduce more events which showcase India’s diversity, such as hosting a food festival with dishes from all over India.
Mehar Taneja

Hi, I’m Mehar and I am running for the position of social secretary. Having been exposed to various leadership roles in the past, I have been able to develop my leadership, team working skills and communication skills. These skills are essential to a successful social secretary and would help me successfully fulfil this role, since it will enable me to work well in the team and communicate efficiently with the rest of the committee.

I am extremely organised and am an outgoing person who has fun regardless of the event, so I will make sure that you all too have a good time, especially at Dhamaal and Jashn. If I win, I would like to increase the number of social events (club nights and other events) and the types of  events we hold so that everyone can enjoy it. I know I can bring new ideas to this role. Having being a part of committee last year as an FYR, I have understood what is required in order to run the society successfully, alongside the commitment required. Together with the other committee members, I'm hoping to work hard to make the society a lot of fun for everyone next year!

Jaymin Shah

Hey, I’m Jaymin and I'm a first year Medic. I love getting to know new people and I believe that I would be the perfect candidate for the role of Social Secretary.

Over the course of my gap year, I worked in a COVID vaccination clinic as the main source of communication between the administration and clinical teams. This hugely bolstered my organisational and team-working skills, as I had to work closely with the NHS staff to ensure the smooth running of the busy vaccination centre. As Social Secretary, these skills would enable me to meet with other members of the committee to coordinate and create fun and exciting social events (just like the trademark events of Dhamaal and Jashn)!

As part of my school prefect team, I was involved in setting up many successful charity events, one of which raised over £700 for the well-known foundation, Samaritans. These experiences developed my marketing and promotional skills, as I had to figure out new ways to attract students to get involved with the fund-raising activities. If I were given the opportunity to be your Social Secretary, I would utilise these skills to arrange a wide variety of events, including inter-university and inter-society activities, that are inclusive and bring new and current members of the society together to have a good time.

Vote for me and I will continue to make UCL Indian Society one of the best and biggest cultural societies in London!

Harsil D Dixit

Hi, my name is Harsil. I’m a first-year biomedical student, but really a medic at heart. Being a part of Indian society has been the highlight of my year, from socials to club nights it has allowed me to stay connected with the culture and bond with like-minded people. As a sociable person, I am great at forming networks and connections which goes hand in hand with the role of social secretary.

From my time as a pharmacy advisor at Boots, I gained excellent customer service and communication skills, as well as holding the responsibility of providing accurate medication to patients. I was an integral part of the pharmacy team for a year, which provided me with many skills that I’ll bring as social secretary. I’ve also volunteered at my local mandir and was involved in organising their annual Holi event. My role consisted of managing my team and delegating tasks based on the strengths of the individuals involved.

As social secretary, I’d introduce new social events such as games nights, gym taster sessions and intersociety competitive events. I’ve already hosted a movie night for the society, so I believe that experience will translate to future events. During freshers, one of the main things that welcomed me into university was the families scheme, hence why I would like to prioritise that further in my time on committee.

Vote for me for social secretary, and I can guarantee I’ll be sober enough to make sure that no FYR ends up in A&E. Thank you.

Arushi Sharma

The role of a social secretary involves organising social events to bring the Indian society together and I believe I have the requisite qualities to perform successfully in this role.

I was part of the Hindu committee during secondary school, in which I delivered assemblies and promoted social events through the year. I am able to handle chaotic situations maturely, which I believe will come handy when dealing with difficult scenarios.

As part of completing my Gold DofE, I worked alongside others in a team and recorded any problems throughout the expeditions. This transferable skill will ensure that I am able to communicate effectively with the rest of the committee when needed.

Through regularly attending desi clubbing nights and even performing at Jashn, I have had the first hand experience of these major events. This has enabled me to gauge a sense of what the people want and hopefully I can use the role to better the future clubbing experiences.

I desire to let my warm, hard-working and enthusiastic self be expressed when completing the assigned duties and making real the desire to help others.
