Having been in the club for 3 years, UCLWHC has shaped my uni experience, as hockey was not just a place for a bit of sport but also a really welcoming, friendly environment. So, it is my pleasure to be running for president to ensure this can continue for years to come.

Being on committee for the last 2 years has made me passionate about how the club functions and any improvements. As fixtures sec, weekly communication between internal and external people is very important and has really helped reinforce my organisation, being on top of things and planning out my weeks. Being social sec increased my confidence and helped me get to know a lot of the hockey club, I think it is important committee members are well known so they are approachable to anyone with any issues.

Aspects to focus on:

  • Committee: regular meetings to stay on top of work
  • 3s&4s: sourcing a coach and increasing integration into the club
  • 4s: changing the attitude to the 4s team
  • RUHC: working out a more cost-efficient system of payment
  • Kit: trying to get it sorted sooner and organising a system for fresh to have/be lent tops
  • Welfare: continuing online sessions and anonymous forums, creating safe spaces in club
  • Media: keeping up to date, weekly round ups and what’s on
  • Volunteering: continuing to push monthly volunteering activities
  • Transition: working with Julia to ensure a smooth transition over the years (e.g. sorting out LUSL matching and issues of fielding full teams

Helllooo everyone,
Tis my 2nd year of uni but my 1st true year at UCLWHC, oh what a year it has been. I was thrown in the deeeeep end.
Being a member of such a vibrant community has made my time at UCL so much better, and I want to offer my skills and knowledge to make many positive changes to the club. I want to give back to the community that has given and taught me so much, and pres would enable this.

As an engineering student and a dedicated member of the club that’s still acing my degree, I am organised and have a disciplined way of life, meaning that I will always be able to set time aside to look after the club and ensure that all is running smoothly to let you kweens play hockey.

Starting uni balls deep into Covid enabled me to understand the best ways to make freshers and current members of the team feel included. Starting on the outskirts of the club and working my way up from the 4s to the 1s and as a COVID fresh has showed me that it takes effort to become well integrated but that this effort will always be rewarded. I believe the process of feeling a part of the club needs to be easier and less daunting and it will be one of the first things I address.

I have leadership experience through being captain of my county squad, which held lots of responsibility. I was able to make the most of my teams and build strong bonds between us all. As pres I would bring these skills to the UCLWHC, with the intention of fully integrating all teams.
