Project Impactive
Project Impactive is building the future of assistive tech. The project name ‘Impactive’ originates from our aim, which is to have an impact on people’s lives by creating bespoke assistive technology and tackling accessibility issues in our society. Our dedicated voluntary team of engineers and committee members work alongside our clients and partners so that the projects we create…
Description

Project Impactive is a voluntary initiative that builds customised equipment & technology in collaboration with disabled people to enable them to live independent lives.

Engineers work on real-world projects designing and manufacturing bespoke and customised products. Past projects include wheelchair attachments/modifications, a tri-walker, one-handed controller, and wheelchair platform.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to gain hands-on engineering experience and create a lasting impact on people's lives.

Duties

Engineers will work closely in a group, along with the specific client or organization, designing, receiving feedback, creating a prototype, and producing a final product.

Attend weekly engineering sessions with your group to achieve the final product.

Who will the volunteers be working with?
Other volunteers (mostly fellow student engineers), external organizations, and engineering CAD mentors and/or consultants.
Training
Training and advice will be provided by our CAD mentors and/or consultants. Due to the timeline of producing a working product within an academic year, the training will not be regular but rather tailored to each specific project.

Time commitment

Weekly commitment of 2 hours until the product is finished. This can be modified based on volunteers' availabilities and the nature of the project.
Application deadline

This is an opportunity offered by a Student-Led Volunteering Project. It is run by UCL students and supported and supervised by staff in Students' Union UCL Volunteering Service.
