Kith & Kids
We need volunteers who can support help our members (young adults with autism and/or learning disabilities) to have lots of fun and challenge themselves in a host of activities throughout the year!Kith & Kids' aim is to empower our members and their families to develop new skills, gain greater confidence and overcome social exclusion. We have an activity to suit the interest and availability…
Description

Join us at our boutique charity shop and support our friendly service users who have autism or a learning disability as they build their work experience and social skills. You’ll be supporting our members with all aspects of working in the shop in order for them to build well-rounded skills within the work place.

The shop is based in Chingford, E4

Duties

At the shop you will be paired with one of our members with a learning disability or autism. You'll support and encourage them to complete the job/role they have been given for that specific day and encourage them to practice their social skills by interacting with the public in a polite and friendly manner.

You will also encourage them to work as part of a team and engage socially with staff and volunteers present in the shop.  You will build their confidence and encourage them to take on new challenges.

Who will the volunteers be working with?
Volunteers will be working 1-1 with our members who have a disability, alongside our shop manager.
Training
Volunteers must attend two training sessions and complete a free DBS check before you begin volunteering.
This is a great opportunity to get to know everyone at Kith & Kids: your fellow volunteers, some of our members you will be working with, and gives the opportunity to develop some new skills and expand your knowledge in our workshops.
Topics we cover include:
• Communication
• Autism
• Supporting emotions
• Safeguarding
• Creativity & Participation
• Epilepsy

Time commitment

We encourage a minimum commitment of 4 hours at a time, however the more time you spend with our members the more you get to know them and are able to better support them.
Application deadline

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.
