Solidarity Sports
When Solidarity Sports was established in 2007, we aimed to engage children in sports--a fun, accessible way to bring kids together and promote good health and wellness. Solidarity Sports has harnessed the transformative power of play to nurture disadvantaged children recovering from complex trauma. We support children's healing through sports, healthy eating, arts, educational trips, mentorship…
Description

We are a charity that harnesses the transformative power of play and exercise to help vulnerable children recover from complex trauma. Our goal is to nurture the confidence of every child we work with and develop valuable life skills to help them reach their full potential.

Volunteers will support children at Solidarity Sports projects at after-school clubs.

During the school term we have two after school clubs running:

  1. 'Thrive' - based at St Clements and St James Primary School (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) 3:30pm - 5:30pm
  2. SS After school at Solidarity Sports base - 253 North End Road (Thursdays Only) 3:30pm - 5:30pm

All volunteers will be DBS checked before volunteering.

Duties

Your role will include

  • Supporting children at Solidarity Sports term-time projects during after-school clubs.
  • This may include running through playgrounds with our children, doing arts and crafts, going swimming, bowling, and many more fun activities.
  • Building a positive, trusting relationship with our children, and making them feel special and valued at all times during our projects.

Who will the volunteers be working with?
Vulnerable children in West London (aged 5-11) with a history of various difficulties, including mental health, special education needs, history of abuse, etc. More than 90% of our children are referred to by social services and live in very difficult environments. We need enthusiastic volunteers that are ready to dedicate your energy and affection!
Training
All training is provided by the Solidarity Sports team before the project (Volunteer Introduction Training), other training opportunities may also come up along the way to build CV and experience (e.g. safeguarding training).

Time commitment

Volunteering for after-school clubs is flexible, you can choose to do a one-off session of volunteer regularly.

We completely appreciate our volunteers have other commitments so aim to be flexible, however as we work with children it's super important volunteers are punctual and turn up to days they have signed up for.
Application deadline

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch with us at any time.
