UCL Student Hospital Fun Team
Unfortunately, we're currently pausing recruitment since we've had so many people sign up this year. We're actively looking for new volunteering placements, so we'll be updating this space if new opportunities become available.  What is UCL Student Hospital Fun Team?
Description

UCL Student Hospital Fun Team is an award-winning volunteering organisation that aims to create a sense of normality for children and adolescents in hospitals and refugee centres with games and conversations.

Our organisation provides you with the perfect opportunity to experience working with children and adolescents alike.

Furthermore, you will develop important leadership, teamwork and communication skills and receive a certificate from the UCL Student Union's Volunteering Services Unit for your contribution.

Overall, the whole experience is very fun and rewarding and the main thing we want from our volunteers is enthusiasm!

Duties

FunTeam volunteers are responsible for playing with children in one of our sites every fortnight.

We are expecting a flexible commitment of 2 hours every fortnight.

Current opportunities include Royal Free Hospital , where you will be able to play and talk with kids in paediatric wards.

In addition, there are opportunities to volunteer with older kids in the new Royal Free Hospital School and the new building at Konstam Centre, teaching kids with long-term illnesses that cannot attend regular school.

Who will the volunteers be working with?
Volunteers will be working with children and adolescents alike. They will be tasked with playing games, helping with a study club and organising various activities for the beneficiaries, in liaison with the partner organisation staff and FunTeam Committee members.
Training
Each of our sites have different training requirements. These usually include a simple, hour-long online workshop owing to the sensitive nature of the job. Additionally, volunteers are asked for a DBS which is arranged free of cost by the Student Union.

Time commitment

We are expecting a flexible commitment of 2 hours every fortnight. Since the project involves children, we ask that volunteers try to commit to at least 4-5 months of volunteering.

Royal Free Hospital confirmed hours include include 10 am to 12 pm, and 2pm to 4pm, with more timings to follow, Monday to Sunday.

Royal Free Hospital schools timings will depend on a case by case basis.
Application deadline

This is an opportunity offered by a Student-Led Volunteering Project. It is run by UCL students and supported and supervised by staff in Students' Union UCL Volunteering Service.
