On 26th February and 5th March UCL Men’s rugby visited Chislehurst Sixth form and Chislehurst School for girls to inform and inspire their year 12 and year 7 students.
They first spoke to 70 Year 12 students; sharing their experiences on preparing for university, choosing the right university and how to navigate the first year as a university student. The sixth form students then broke out into smaller groups for a Q&A with the UCLRFC members.
Led by Caspar Barnes (3rd team captain), the UCLRFC members then ran an introductory rugby lesson for a class of 25 Year 7 students of Chislehurst School for Girls. The focus of the first session was teamwork and communication with passing and catching covered in the second.
Tom Horner, Club president, said ‘its great to be able to come to a school like this and share our experiences both with rugby and with university in general. The year 12s were very open and had some great questions and the year 7s were a bundle of energy. All the lads had great fun interacting with both and we will definitely be looking to do more of this in the future’
With a cup final to look forward to in the build up to Varsity, this is part of a busy season both on and off the pitch for men’s rugby. They have also raised over £12,000 for charities such as Movember and The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
