Hi there!
As an avid participant in Kinesis activities this year, I'd love to apply for the role of Managing Editor, as one that best intersects the skillset I can bring to the society and what I am most passionate about.
The role requires organisational abilities in keeping contact with all writers for issues, managing spreadsheets, sending emails and reminders, and meeting deadlines. I developed these skills as the leader of my school's Science Society, involving being the main organiser of a conference with 14 student speakers over 2 weeks, conducting a school-wide science poster fair, and directly liaising with committee members and the wider school through weekly emails.
In addition, the role requires an eye for detail and an analytical mindset to effectively edit multiple pieces of work in a short timeframe, all skills which I can bring to the table through experience being Managing Editor for my high school's term newspaper. This role entailed coordinating the submission of pieces from an array of writers and editing them to a deadline while keeping the rest of the committee updated on progress.
Finally, the post of Managing Editor for Kinesis necessitates a large time commitment, which I have demonstrated by editing pieces for all 3 issues produced this year as well as producing an article for one of them.
I hope this role will allow me ample opportunities to grow alongside all of you, so I can continue contributing to Kinesis in the coming year!
Hey everyone, I am Altay, current Copy Editor, running for Managing Editor.
Having written and edited for Kinesis over the past three years, inconjunction with producing written content for RUMS Welfare, I have developed my passion for writing factual and entertaining articles to inform people across several disciplines. Having contributed to Issue 9, special issue and several online articles, I hope to take on a greater responsibility in preparing new articles.
In my time editing and writing, I have been very grateful to work alongside individuals from a wide range of disciplines and degrees to provide the best possible material for online posts and issues. I have always communicated, left comments and supported peers through the editing period, supporting our great writers to make exemplary work.
A goal of mine in the role would be to provide more resources aimed at supporting writers in the conception of ideas and drafting of articles. I would aim to do this in providing live sessions at the start of the academic year; drop in sessions both in person and online to support all of the team, as well as continue to ensure all articles are to the best quality they can be.
The past three years have been a pleasure, collaborating alongside the whole team. I would love to be your next Managing Editor and continue to make Kinesis a warm, welcoming society.
