I believe that being a part of the committee of the Investment society is my best choice, as I have always been interested in this field, have made my own investments in the capital and cryptocurrency markets, and I want to make my career in this as well. I clearly understand the duties of being the head of outreach at this society, and I am ready to give all my time and effort for this role, no matter how intensive it gets. I have loads of potential ideas for different kinds of fun and informative events that could take place in the next academic year. I also want the students to be more involved with the society throughout the year, and I want people to realize that being a part of this society is not only a fun thing but can also be very beneficial for their careers. I can prove my skills as I have always been a leader since high school, from being the anti-bullying cadet of my school, the lead organizer, and a volunteer for a lot of events, and I know what it takes to be on the organizer desk-the number of problems that could arise, the brainstorming sessions for a new event idea, fund management, speaking to sponsors, etc, I have done it all. I have won multiple prizes in hackathons and public speaking. I am a highly motivated, and hard-working person, and I easily fit the qualities that a leader must have. I am standing because I know that I can bring change to this society and lead it with utmost honesty and sincerity.

Manas Kanchan

Over the years, I have come to realize that the most intrinsically significant instrument of success is learning to build relationships with people around you. I place a high value on successful communication; I consider the quality or characteristic of being a good communicator as the key to building relationships. I appreciate people who exude this characteristic which is why I work my hardest to ensure that I emulate the qualities of a competent communicator. In doing so, I have had opportunities to plan and organize events such as Model WEF and Harvard MUN where I learned to foster my time management skills, congenial attitude and determined work ethic. I have also been working with UCL in their BAME Inclusivity Panel wherein I strategize effective modus operandi in minimizing awarding gap of BAME students and help improve their interpersonal environment. Additionally, during my year-long internship as a Market research intern at the Evolv news organization, I had the opportunity to synthesize plans to increase the outreach of our firm by nearly 80%. This opportunity allowed me to experience networking and shadowing seniors that helped cultivate my soft skills. Therefore, with the experiential learnings I have acquired, I believe that I would be best suited to give back to UCLIS as VP outreach, through which I can coalesce my organized and result-oriented work ethic, with strengths in interpersonal and communication skills to drive positive change in our society.

Samuel Vandak

Hi, I am Samuel and I am currently an outreach executive at UCLIS. I am running to be a VP as I would love to further develop the activities that outreach is in charge of. This year we had a strong start when we gave several talks during the induction week to various departments. I would like to continue with this initiative - with a rather strong focus on STEM and non-finance-related departments. Furthermore, I am looking forward to bringing back the alumni dinner event - a way how to connect current Investment society members with former members who are now working in the industry. As someone who has already spent a year in outreach, I am aware of the important activities that outreach is in charge of as well as potential improvements that can change. I'd love to actively recruit new members throughout the year by for instance hosting talks, discussions, and networking events specifically for students without any pre-existing finance knowledge.

Melodie Li

Hi guys :)

I’m Melodie, BSc Economics and Statistics student hoping to be your VP of Outreach. As a mentee of UCLIS Mentorship Program and attendee of UCLIF Symposium, I’ve found this society an open and supportive community, which I would love to actively support, in turn, by taking on this role.

About why I fit this role…

  • Obtained sponsorships cumulatively worthing two thousand pounds for publishing yearbook as the President of Literature Society in sixth form.
  • Actively involved in various volunteer programs and connected with non-corporate potential sponsors: Helpline Volunteer at Youth Talk, Volunteer Teacher at Yes Future, Research Intern at Social Responsibility Practitioners..
  • Strong communication skills gained as a HR intern at Private Equity and Academic Representative for Statistics.

About my key goals…

  • Continue to strengthen existing relations with leading firms, organizations, and other UCL societies.
  • Reaching out to entrepreneurs and start-ups to seek a more diverse range of partnership opportunities.
  • Implementing innovative methods to develop intercultural relationships within the society by organising safe socials and networking opportunities

I couldn’t be more grateful for the support UCLIS has offered me for developing myself, so I also couldn’t wait to give back, by doing something productive and worth remembering for our society.
