UCLWHC has made me feel at home in a new city and led me to meet some truly wonderful people. Although certain videos may forever haunt me, I’ve loved every social, match and training session. I’d love to get more involved with the club as treasurer.

My experience has prepared me for the role. With A-level maths and physics behind me, I’ve got a strong head for numbers. Equally, I am currently on the board of a charity promoting youth involvement in politics. Through this, I have worked both independently and in teams to organise events, contact external organisations, create content, and have sent many the passive aggressive email chasing people up. I know the importance of meeting deadlines and having strong internal lines of communication to keep projects afloat. With my term there ending soon, I’d love to take on a different challenge as treasurer.

As treasurer, I would:
-Transparent and timely communication:  Striving to ensure payments/ reimbursements are as predictable as possible, providing advance warnings and expected overviews of potential costs
-Promote inexpensive socials: At the start of term when the weather is lovely, deadlines are far off, and everyone needs to get to know each other, BBQs, picnics, or fitness sessions would be a great way to encourage new members and promote integration
-Linking up with other societies to organise sponsored events: by pooling resources and connections, we could ensure that events gain traction

Katie Meikle

Hello, my name's Katie and I love UCLWHC.

I’d like to be Treasurer next year as hockey has been a big part of my uni experience so far, and I'd like to play a larger role in the running of the club. I believe I have the right organisational skills and desire to develop the club to allow me to do a good job. I'd enjoy the extra responsibility that comes with the role, and I’m committed to ensuring fluid financial and administrative running of UCLWHC so we can play hock & run socials smoothly.

As treasurer I'd;

  • Work closely with the media sec to increase UCLWHC media presence during summer and welcome period to increase membership.
  • Be proactive during the summer in searching for potential sponsors. There's more we can offer sponsors, particularly in terms of media promotion (the mens club do this well). I would put effort into differentiating proposals to sponsors based on their sector.
  • Facilitate payment for Monday training at BC in a lump sum before term to avoid issues with training.
  • Restructure Sunday matches. Putting the 2/3s or 3/4s in the same league on Sunday could improve inter-team integration and save us money on pitch hire. These funds we could channel into sourcing or subsidising equipment to make sure the club is financially accessible.
  • Make use of the Friends Trust
  • Assist the club President in day-to-day administrative matters, as well as working on development and direction of the club.

Eve E Hartley

I am a woman from the E in STEM, so maths and numbers are a big part of my life. Being able to budget effectively so that all teams are treated equally and that the club can get the most out of money we get. Keeping the sponsor from last year TPICAP – thanks Mauds mummy – is essential for the club to have enough money to enable socials, ball, and other cheeky activities.

I chat lots of rubbish at anyone and anything that will listen so being direct and persuasive comes naturally. Being in talks with a secondary sponsor for next year *wink* Dad *wink*, means that there is more funding for the girlies to go round. Having more funding enables better coaching, better equipment, and more chance for pitch time. From the lack of decent equipment like balls, cones, and bibs and for our goalies it can be seen that just a little extra cash could go a long way.
