Hindu Society: Welfare Officer

I’ve loved attending all the HSoc events this year as they’ve allowed me to meet so many incredible people as a fresher, and participate in my passions of dance and music - my appreciation for HSoc for this is just one of the reasons that I am passionate about being a welfare officer for HSoc next year. Being a part of Rangeela 2022 has shown me how important maintaining a positive environment is in high stress situations and within a close community. It has shown me that I am good at forming close working relationships with a wide range of people across this society and I have even gained a good understanding of the organisation of HSoc, its committee and the events. I often helped the choreo of our performance to teach moves to the others and resolved conflict effectively, demonstrating that I can manage a crisis. Overall, I believe I have a friendly and approachable personality, and I would be able to effectively maintain harmony across our incredible HSoc!

Hi, my name is Arjun Parmar and I am running for welfare officer of Hindu Society this year. I was on the committee last year as a first-year representative and this enabled me to meet so many new people who, If I had not undertaken this role, I may have never met. I am going for this role to overlook the safety of all events and make sure they run smoothly without any problems. However, should there be a problem do not hesitate to contact me as your welfare officer.

Hinduism is an important aspect of my identity that I place a lot of value on.

Maintaining harmony within the society and at society events sounds like an interesting challenge that I will enjoy. 

As one of the SU officers 2 years ago, I helped to write the role descriptions, training and requirements for society welfare officers, so I know what the job entails and I believe I would be good at it.

Hi! My name is Nidhi and I am applying for the Welfare position on the Hindu Soc committee. As a first year, attending Hindu society events has definitely been a highlight; from Garba to performing in Rangeela and the clubbing in between, I found the perfect opportunities to make new friends, stay in touch with my roots, and be part of a community in London. Considering how much I have enjoyed being a member, I felt motivated to apply for a position on the committee. 

My role as the president of Indian Club during high school provided me with invaluable experience. It allowed me to develop a variety of leadership skills such as being tactful, resourceful, and having the ability to resolve conflict. Further, as an approachable and friendly individual, I believe I have the key skills required to take on the duties of a welfare officer. 

Numerous other leadership positions in clubs and sports teams in the past have taught me the importance of maintaining harmony among leaders, as this is essential for the success of a club as a whole. I aspire to carry out these responsibilities as a welfare officer for the Hindu Society at UCL!

Hey! I’m Rahul, and I would love to be your Welfare Officer next year. For those of you that haven’t met me yet, let me introduce myself…

I joined HSOC as an FYR and thoroughly enjoyed being a part of such well organised events such as Diwali Ball and Rangeela. Due to this experience as an FYR, I gained a direct insight into how these nights were planned and what made them so successful. I’m confident that I can help events run more smoothly and want to ensure that our members feel as safe and included as possible.

In past club events that I’ve planned, I’ve enforced the use of optional drink covers at the bar which made guests feel more comfortable. I look to incorporate methods like this to make sure the HSOC community knows that their wellbeing is of upmost importance. I pride myself in my adaptability which allows me to be a ‘jack of all trades’. I would love to help and support the rest of the committee as much as possible.

The mental health aspect of this role is extremely significant to me as I know what a toll it can take on peoples lives. For this reason, I want to be there for the members of our community in any way they require. I’m just a call away and am happy to listen to people’s problems no matter how small.

I’m looking forward to seeing HSOC evolve and maintain our well-earned title of the best community at UCL. I hope I’ve gained your vote and can’t wait to meet you all next year!

Part of the reason UCL was my dream university was because of the university’s Hindu Society, I aspired to be a part of the committee and family before I was even accepted into UCL. I have always found myself leading projects or hosting events with non-profit organisations or at high school as a goal-orientated house leader and a part of the year group council for several years. 

With these learning opportunities to work with other members planning and hosting a variety of events, I have sharpened my communication and cooperation skills that are transferrable to working with members in the Hindu Society Committee. 

In addition to these skills, I have learnt to think on my toes and respond quickly to certain circumstances. This has taught me to always plan ahead for all events while hoping for the best which is exactly what I would do as the Welfare Officer. 

With this experience that I bring and my love for my culture, I strongly believe I will be able to maintain harmony within the committee and contribute to organising the best and most memorable events with the Hindu Society Committee! 

HSoc has contributed massively to the fantastic experience that I have had at university so far! Therefore, I would love to be on the committee next year to ensure the incredible legacy is kept alive and to a high standard.

The role of Welfare Officer stood out to me as it is something that relates well to both my personality and skillset. As strange as it may sound, I enjoy taking care of others and solving issues. I feel confident that I would work well with others on the committee and help to provide harmony as I have a lot of previous experience in this. During my role as Head Girl, I managed a team of 15 and in stressful situations, there were often disagreements. I ensured I acted as a mediator and a person to talk to when others felt anxious and frustrated. I would use these skills to ensure both committee and HSoc members stay smiling :).

Being a medical student also enables me to have some extra experience! Completing a First Response course and clinical skills means that I have good knowledge on how to respond if an emergency were to arise at an event. I really do want to see all of our members have fun and make unforgettable memories whilst staying safe!

My aims for this new role are to be a friendly face to members, put in place a welfare system for events, and ensure the committee is happy and running smoothly. Lastly, I will help execute the ideas of the other committee members to continue running this wonderful society that represents our culture and community!

Hi, my name is Siya, I’m an Architecture student from NW London and I’m applying to be Hindu Society’s new Welfare Officer. I think I would be a good fit for this role because I am an organised, committed and responsible individual. This coupled with my outgoing and sociable personality makes me believe I would be the perfect person to maintain harmony and communication between the committee and its members. Through my years of teaching children I have developed the patience and understanding to deal with unforeseen circumstances and situational judgement. I have particularly enjoyed the social aspects of events such as Garba and Diwali Ball as I’m a very approachable and friendly person who loves meeting new people. My aim is to make Hindu Soc the place for all your SPORT, ACADEMIC and most importantly SOCIAL needs. Hindu Soc events were an integral part of my first year experiences and I think it’s time to make them bigger and better than ever before, I would love to be part of the committee that can makes this happen! 

I’d love to take on the role as welfare officer for Hindu society next year because I’ve really enjoyed the various Hindu society events so far and so I think this would be a great opportunity to give back to the community. Getting involved with Rangeela, I appreciated how nice it was to be part of a community and meet people like me, as well as connecting more with my culture. So this is something I’d love to help out with next year. I’d also say I am well-informed about our religion and culture, including the traditions, food, music, and all-things Bollywood of course, and so I think I’m in a good position to take on a role in Hindu society. The role of welfare officer comes with great responsibility as there are bound to be mishaps, but I think I’d be able to deal with these situations promptly and efficiently to allow for everything to run smoothly as I’d say it’s in my personality to be level-headed and rational. With regards to my experience, I was selected to be a first-year academic rep for my course so I’ve got experience with communicating and coordinating with not only many people, but also a range of people. My role also involved coming up with effective solutions to the complaints my peers had and conveying this in a constructive way - a key skill I can use here. To sum up, I would love for the chance to get stuck in and take on this role because I think it’ll be really rewarding and a nice way to contribute to Hindu society.
