AUDREY MAMELLE

Hi I'm Audrey (she/her)! I've been interested in feminism for quite a long time but my enthusiasm really picked up during lockdown, where I would spend all day listening to podcasts and researching issues relating to feminism (and social justice). The power of feminism comes from being able to learn about systems of power and being able to free ourselves from them. My aim as a committee member would be to provide fun and educational events for all members to help in their journey of deconstructing learned patriarchal ideas. As a queer woman (sapphic and aroace), I also want to promote more activities that include intersectional feminism and that help us to find and connect with each other! I'm currently the general secretary for the taekwondo club, so I have quite a lot of experience with writing newsletters, doing admin work, and supporting a society. Having acted as a sustainability ambassador for Sustainable UCL this year and as head of advocacy for charity projects in school, I've learned a lot about organising events and collaborating with team members.

This society was the one I was the most excited to join before starting at UCL so I really hope I can become part of the team and provide the rest of the members with lots of exciting opportunities :)

I joined GenFem in my first year as I was learning more about feminism. I fell in love. GenFem has created a space where everyone is welcome and can share everything: worries, hopes and opinions. Being part of the 21/22 committee convinced me even more of the importance of the society. We should never stop learning from each other by sharing what's important to us. As treasurer of the 22/23 committee, I would pour my heart and soul into GenFem to ensure the safe space stays. I hope to help continue the string of events we had this year.
