Celeste Cohen

Hi, I’m Celeste! I am a second-year Human Genetics student and GenFem’s Activism and Fundraising Officer. I hope to become president of GenFem next year to keep moving together towards a better society in every sense of the word!

As a large society, I think GenFem has a role in instigating change both inside and outside our university environment. There are so many facets to gender equality, and as GenFem’s president I want to explore new ways to actively make a difference and start productive conversations where it matters. I hope to make it possible for any member of GenFem to get involved, giving everyone an opportunity to voice ideas and meet like-minded people through regular socials, talks and other events!

Throughout the past year, I have co-organised fundraisers for the charities Irise International and Mermaids, getting GenFem members (including myself) involved in eye-opening discussions about so many different feminist topics like sexual harassment and transgender rights – and the year isn’t over yet! I’ve been able to familiarise myself with the ins and outs of running a society and organising successful events, while interacting with the different roles on committee that I would coordinate as GenFem’s president.

From intersectionality and gender rights to sexual health, I’m excited to continue tackling gender issues throughout next year. I hope you consider me as next year’s president and vote for me! :)
