It was quite evident that the Francophone Society wasn’t very active this year and I want to change this. Indeed UCL was absent from most of the events organized by other French Societies in London, and this is a pity. I think that it is essential for us to unite with our fellow Francophone students from other universities as it will allow us to organize important events. Yes, European Nights or events like this are fun, but I am talking about inviting inspiring guests, organizing sports events and much more. I would like to take the example of LSE and Kings, their French societies united to invite former prime minister Edouard Philippe. This was a major event and UCL wasn’t present. UCL is a major London University, with a great francophone community, therefore it is clear that it should participate in such events. I am well connected with students from other unis and members of French committees so I can assure that I will work on connecting our society with others, allowing us to take part such events. This year the UCL francophone society has only received ESCP for a talk on masters. That’s all. I think that my fellow UCL Francophones are eager to meet inspiring figures and attend enriching events, I have no doubt that in a uni like ours we should be able to do it. The Francophone spirit should not be limited to Cheese & wine meetings, I want to put UCL at the center of the London Francophone community, this is why I am standing!

Claire Lancon

Hey everyone,

My name is Claire and I’m a second year Economics student. You may already know me as I was Cultural Officer and French teacher this year. I had the chance to work alongside a passionate team to relaunch face-to-face activities after 2 years of restrictions.

Being an outgoing and motivated person with experience of leadership, it is a great pleasure to be running for President of the Francophone Society.

My vision as President is to pursue our engaging events such as Club Nights with London European Societies, Cheese & Wine Tastings, Sport Tournaments, …

But I also aim to :

  • Strengthen and expand our network with other like-minded societies both within and outside UCL to boost diversity and increase our outreach and reputation
  • Increase funding by seeking out new sponsorship opportunities in order to organise larger-scale events
  • Build on a strong connection with French universities and Grandes Ecoles

Oh and by the way, I am not alone! I run alongside Clelia Ortscheidt and Nicolas Bert, respectively candidates for VP/treasurer and cultural officer. If you give us your trust, we will work to create a lively and inclusive society!

Thank you for reading my manifesto and feel free to contact me (WhatsApp +33781517063 or [email protected]) if you have any questions :)
