Alan Moc

Hi, I'm Alan. I am nominating myself for the position of Welfare Officer as I care for the people.

Having come to university, it is evident that many students suffer problems and walk around with a dark cloud around their head. At home, on campus, during studies, during holidays all sorts of issues, big and small that negatively impact their university and broader life well-being. Loneliness and feelings of isolation is the biggest problem I have noticed, especially for new students and one I personally struggle with. If you would like to ever have a talk, lunch, a drink. Hit me up and let's go! My number is 07399440577.

As Welfare Officer, I will do everything within my power to make sure that you are doing well on a personal level. I will also continue to educate myself more on the support facilities UCL has to offer and all other possible sources I can find in order to be as useful as possible. I would also like to work alongside the society to host socials, especially more activity based ones and try to integrate everyone into the student community.

My main priority as a member of my family, friends and peers is a simple one : to be there.

Nusrat Sujan

My name is Nusrat and I would love to be the welfare officer for UCL First Gen!

As the current welfare officer for UCL First Gen, I have experience working with the current president in organising meetings and hosting events, such as the UCL Buddy Scheme Launch, which was a great success and a lot of fun!

I believe I would be a good fit for welfare officer as I would like to think I am approachable and I am always willing to lend an ear to anyone who needs it, whether they just need someone to talk to or if they have any issues they would like to discuss. I would love to create a safe space where first-generation students can mix with other students of a similar background and not feel so alone in their university journey.

If I were to be elected for the position of welfare officer in the next academic year, I would really like to run the Buddy Scheme Launch again as I think it was a great way of making new friends based on similar interests. During these past two years, I am aware that there have not been many opportunities for students to make real-life connections due to the nature of the pandemic. So I would like to run regular Buddy events, instead of just one, so that there is always an opportunity to make new friends and hang out with your buddies throughout the year! I will also ensure that there is a great selection of good quality free food and drinks as I am aware this is a significant indicator of event attendance.
