My name is Nusrat and I would love to be the welfare officer for UCL First Gen!

As the current welfare officer for UCL First Gen, I have experience working with the current president in organising meetings and hosting events, such as the UCL Buddy Scheme Launch, which was a great success and a lot of fun!

I believe I would be a good fit for welfare officer as I would like to think I am approachable and I am always willing to lend an ear to anyone who needs it, whether they just need someone to talk to or if they have any issues they would like to discuss. I would love to create a safe space where first-generation students can mix with other students of a similar background and not feel so alone in their university journey.

If I were to be elected for the position of welfare officer in the next academic year, I would really like to run the Buddy Scheme Launch again as I think it was a great way of making new friends based on similar interests. During these past two years, I am aware that there have not been many opportunities for students to make real-life connections due to the nature of the pandemic. So I would like to run regular Buddy events, instead of just one, so that there is always an opportunity to make new friends and hang out with your buddies throughout the year! I will also ensure that there is a great selection of good quality free food and drinks as I am aware this is a significant indicator of event attendance.
