Naomi Hampton

I am standing because I have been on the team for two years and feel that I will make an excellent vice president with my vast experience on the team. I have been the President/Vice President of five clubs in the past, and thus possess the necessary skills to successfully complete the job. I regularly attend meetings and have thus seen how the society is run and will be able to smoothly continue this process for next year.

Liv Urwin

From the moment I joined a debate club at school aged 14, I have come to know the true joys of debating. From the highs of winning my first round at my first competition and becoming my school’s debate captain, to the lows of having my only point be torn to shreds by the opposing side in spectacular fashion, debating has become a great passion of mine. Not only has it allowed me to improve my critical thinking and presentation skills, I have also been able to grow in confidence - that is why I want to be part of the committee. I want the chance to be able to help this society give people a supportive and nurturing environment in which new and old debaters can develop their confidence just as I was able to. Through the vice president role, I will support the committee team in all their actions through the organising of the foundation dinner, the assistance at Monday night public debates and the general training sessions, to ensure people are able to realise their potential and join our debating family.

Christian F Dasilva

I want to help lead UCL Debate to continue to succeed as a club and become even better in the future

Phoebe E Luxford

Hi! I’m Phoebe, a keen debater and prominent member of UCL Debating Society.

This year I was part of the committee as Non-Portfolio Officer but I now believe I have the experience and knowledge to become Vice President of the society next year.

So why should I be your Vice President?

  1. I love debating!
  2. I am committed to the Society – I have attended weekly sessions, committee meetings, competitions, socials and public debates
  3. I have experience on the committee already - I am currently a Non-Portfolio Officer
  4. I am very personable and easy to talk to – This is good for alumni relations, working with the President and committee and the wider society more generally
  5. I am already helping organise and spearheaded this year's upcoming Debate Foundation Dinner – this is one of the key roles of the Vice President
  6. I am a confident public speaker – I am suitable for chairing Public Debates
  7. I will aim to make Debate Society more welcoming and inclusive to both beginners and advanced level debaters
  8. I am a Debate Mate mentor teaching secondary school children debate skills - debating is in my blood!
  9. I also have experience in a position of responsibility as the Hall Rep for my accommodation- representing over 450 people!

Hopefully, after reading that schpiel you can see I am suitable for the role and a bit of a fan of debating so.....

Please vote Phoebe Luxford for Vice President!
