Clara Nouvelle

Hi everyone! I’m Clara, a first year biology student. As I’ve witnessed for the past couple months, dance society is not only a great opportunity to get dancing here at UCL but also meet people and socialise! I’m running for the welfare and volunteering officer position as I hope to contribute to the welcoming and inclusive aspect of dance society. I know how hard university can be, especially in these current times of covid where remote learning can be particularly tough. I hope to be a friendly face next year and someone you can always talk to about anything that might be troubling you.

I’m also really excited about putting together a volunteering project! It’s such a great opportunity to give back whilst doing something you love. I tend to plan things way in advance and like to be very organised so I think I could really put together a cool project for anyone to participate in.

Overall, I would love the opportunity to work with all the dancers here and hopefully make their experience as rewarding as mine has been for me this year.

Tara Goolamali

My name is Tara and I would be eager to get more involved in Dance Society through being the Welfare and Volunteering Officer! I feel I would suit this role as I am personable and approachable. I very much enjoy talking to people, and helping out. Previously, I have volunteered at my local dance school, and done several fundraisers including cake sales and auctions for various charities. I am also naturally organised and committed, through having before taken on roles such as tutoring and participating in many societies and hobbies including dance, cheer and musical theatre. Having been Head Girl at my secondary school, I am capable of holding meetings and talking to and supporting a variety of people in a confident, friendly manner. Regularly performing and taking on roles of responsibility and communication have also developed my leadership and confidence skills, however I am keen to take these even further through producing a show and leading a project. This role would allow me to help others and grow! Alongside the weekly drop ins, I would always be available to talk and listen to people, and organise some stress relieving and mental health sessions, perhaps like yoga amongst other things.

Amelie B Harding

Hey! It’s Amelie and I’ve decided to run for Welfare officer mainly because of my love of everyone that I’ve interacted with in dance soc this year. It is such an amazing society full of fabulous people and I would love to give back!

One of my favourite parts of choreographing Samba in Triple Bill was being able to get close with my dancers, checking up on them and being able to support them. I genuinely love checking up on people, as well as problem-solving (I know balancing a degree and a busy dance schedule can be super hard sometimes!!!). I’m also mega organised- planners and lists are the way to go- so producing a show would be right up my street. I have previous experience organising volunteering events as I work for a charity called ‘Be Me’ that runs self-esteem courses in secondary schools. So I have lots of experience in the welfare role over the last couple of years.

I am friendly- if a bit too friendly- and can talk to literally anyone, so would really love to put these skills to use to benefit such a diverse society! I am all for inclusivity and making sure that the society is a welcoming place for all. As welfare officer, I would also be very hands on in the society, attending classes, running welfare hour, as well as hopefully meeting up with you guys for coffee. I really want to provide everyone with the time and space to talk things through.

Lots of Love, Amelie

Hannah Thomas

Hi everyone! I'm Hannah! Dance Society was one of the first societies I decided to join. Safe to say, it has been something that I have come back to every week since it is extremely enjoyable and a great stress-reliever despite me being completely new to dance! I would love to give back to this wonderful society as Welfare Officer!

As a medical student, I understand the pressure university students go through and I believe that I can provide support and a listening ear for anyone who is struggling (and for those who aren't and just want a chat!). I will help to ensure that Dance Society continues to be a safe and inclusive environment and ensure that any concerns voiced by students are met and resolved.

I have lots of experience volunteering, from being the student prefect for volunteering at school to now volunteering to provide nutritious meals to the community and I would love to organise and lead any charitable events for Dance Society. Volunteering has also improved my ability to work well in a team.

If elected, I will:

  • Continue weekly drop-in sessions for dance society members
  • Welfare tips on social media
  • Help with Triple Bill, the largest charity showcase of the year
  • Collaborate with a charitable organisation and spread our love of dance to the wider community
  • Work with other committee members to helps run shows and social events

It would be a privilege to have your vote and take up this position next year!!
