Gemma Ng

Hey everyone!

My name is Gemma and I am running for Vice President! This year, I had the honour of being freshers’ rep and I loved being able to interact with all the different members and be a part of the behind-the-scenes for big dance society events such as TranscenDance! As part of the committee this year, I was able to understand how different events run and would certainly be of great help and support to any committee members that may need it!

If I am elected, I am prepared to be versatile, step up when there are any issues that need my assistance, and be proactive, engaging myself in all aspects of dance society. I believe that I have the time-management skills and organisational skills required to strive in this role, and will be able to stay on top of things in order to support the president that will be elected :) On top of that, I am confident I have the capability to produce the 24-hour show and hopefully be able to get people excited as we come back after summer for the first event of dance society!

I would love to be supporting everyone and co-produce the 24-hour show in the upcoming year.

Vote for me <3

Isobel Persaud

Dance Society was my grounding force in my first year, providing an escape from Zoom tutorials. This year, it has been my life. I would love nothing more than to give back to all you beautiful people by serving as Vice President.

Having thrown myself into all aspects of Dance Soc, I will use my experience to ensure the decisions we make lead to another fantastic year of dancing.

I possess the skills necessary to carry on Emma’s wonderwork work, and fulfill this role to its full potential.

I am:

APPROACHABLE

  • Whether on class duty or around campus, come to me with questions or concerns.

ORGANISED

  • Able to recognise important information to be given in class announcements.
  • Attention to detail: vital for managing the costume cupboard.
  • Time management: particularly important given the time frame of the 24 Hour Show!

A LEADER

  • After being on the stage crew of two Blooms shows (including as Stage Manager), I am confident I can effectively produce the 24 Hour Show.
  • I strive for inclusivity, giving everyone the opportunity to make their opinions known.

COMMITTED

  • To making the society the best that it can be.
  • Open to criticism, and ready to make changes following feedback.
Alice Wright

Hi everyone! I’m Alice, a first-year English student, and I would love to be your Vice President next year! I probably spent a little too much time dancing this year, having met so many wonderful people at Freshers Show, experiencing an insane team spirit within the competition team as well as dancing alongside so much talent in the annual Blooms show. I would love to be able to give back to the society by serving on the committee and hopefully giving Dance Society members an experience at least half as good as the one I had!

As Vice-President, I would like to continue to develop the inclusive nature of the society by encouraging more communication between the committee and members of dance society in order to make sure that all concerns are given a resolution directly, e.g., through weekly drop-in meetings where at least two committee members are present. Moreover, as one of my duties is to oversee the costume cupboard, I would prioritise liaising with members over costume returns at the beginning of term as well as contacting former members of dance society who may have been unable to return costumes due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chelsea Ju

Hello! My name is Chelsea and I’m currently a Politics, Philosophy, and Economics second year student. I’ve been training in ballet for a long time (10+ years!), but I am aspiring to do better in other areas of dance (becoming good at hip hop is the dream...)

I’m running for Vice President for a few reasons.

As VP, one of my roles will include producing the 24 hour show. Fortunately, because I was a dancer in this show, I am familiar with how the show should be run. In addition, I have participated in Freshers’ Show and will be dancing in Blooms. I also have experience from dancing in shows in my studio back home. While participating and producing a show are different, I know my experience will prove to be a valuable asset as I carry out this task.

Other roles includes managing the costume cupboard and smaller administrative tasks. While I have never managed a costume cupboard, I have been in administrative tasks before. In high school, I was VP of a large volunteering organisation; every time we participated in an event, I had to fill out multiple pieces of paperwork to submit to the school. Before my role ended because of Covid, I had filed paperwork for over 100 events. I feel confident in my organisational abilites to execute what is expected from me.

If I become VP, I guarantee I will always be a friendly face on the committee for any dancer to approach with their worries. Thank you!!
