Over my last two years on the DanceSoc committee, first as a Freshers' Rep and then as Vice-President, I have gained an in-depth understanding of what it takes to be the society’s President and have developed the key skills and gained a wealth of experience which will allow me to do so successfully. I am prepared to be wholeheartedly involved in and oversee every aspect of society to ensure that all our events run smoothly and our members have the best experience possible.
My Presidential Aims:
- To continue the society's growth post-covid, focussing on welcoming people completely new to dance and encouraging their participation not only in our classes but our shows too. This would mainly be completed by increasing the number of dances in, and the general grandeur of, Triple Bill.
- To collaborate more with other UCL societies! This includes collaborating with non-dance based societies to introduce fresh faces to DanceSoc and also collaborating with dance-based societies, encouraging their involvement in shows and workshops so that more people can be introduced to a larger range of styles.
- For DanceSoc to be more accessible to a wider range of students, particularly aiming to make our classes and workshops more accessible to the disabled community.
I have so much love for the DanceSoc community at UCL and am so grateful for the creative space the society provides us with! I would be honoured to be next year's President <3
Hi! I’m Sophie and I’m running for President this year. My time at UCL would absolutely not have been the same without Dance Soc and I’ve loved being on committee this year as Communications officer. So, I’d like to submit my nomination for President so that I can do it all again for my final year here ;’)
Being President is a huge responsibility but my love for Dance Soc makes me committed to making it the best it can be! l'm well suited to the role because I can work well with people; I'm organised and having been on committee, know what to expect throughout the year so I can plan ahead. I've had previous experience leading committees in organising conferences and sports competitions. I think that I’m a positive person and that it is important for the President to be encouraging and motivating so that the committee works well together and all the members feel they're welcomed!
As President I'll keep working to make Dance Soc as inclusive and diverse as possible. We already have an amazing range of dance styles in our shows and I want to have more workshops which reflect this diversity that are open to everyone! We will also promote Dance Soc to get more people involved in shows and classes, since it’s the people who make the society such an incredible family to be part of. I'll also make sure that handovers are done thoroughly as COVID had a big impact this year and I hope all the lessons learned will be transferred to the new committee!
