Hiya, I’m Amelie and I’ve decided to run for liaison officer this year! I have loved being a part of dance soc this year and would love to give back this year. Choreographing Samba as well as improving my ballet has been an absolute joy.
Being a good liaison officer involves good communication skills (especially over email with class teachers) and as an English student writing is my bread and butter! I have lots of experience with professional communication since I worked for a charity back in my home town… which meant that I often has to reach out to different sponsors through the phone and email. I've also been dancing since I was 5 so I've had lots of interactions with dance teachers over the years.I am also super duper organised… I’m very used to scheduling and being busy. I also genuinely enjoy it- there is just something so satisfying about keeping everything in order! Perhaps this is why I love dancing ballet?! I am passionate about making sure that dance society is open to all abilities and I think that classes play a really big role in this. They also have provided me with a great opportunity to unwind after my busy day and spend time doing something that I love in a low-pressure environment.
I also come from primarily a Latin dancing background, dancing in Triple bill this year has made me realise how many different styles of dance there are! I would love to organise workshops that incorporate these different styles of dance in the summer term.
Initiatives I hope to implement if I’m elected:
- Designing reading week workshops based on YOUR input
- You might like a particular technique/sub-style from class, or just generally be curious
- Tell me after class and I’ll shortlist the most popular ideas that come up over term 1 and 2
- Based on this, I’ll organise workshops for term 2 and 3 reading weeks (term 1 will be for class showcase)
- Encouraging teachers to showcase Dance Soc more on their social media and refer it to their connections
- More dancers to reach out to for workshops and class subs
- More studios to reach out to for sponsorships
How I believe my personality/experiences match with the role’s responsibilities:
- Organising class schedule and assigning class duty
- I’m personally quite organised; I use schedules and to-do lists for practically everything
- Recruiting teachers
- As assistant producer, I was responsible for recruiting the judges at TranscenDance this year, which I believe is directly transferrable to this
- Organising workshops and co-producing class showcase
- I’ve been organising workshops since high school, and I feel my experience in TranscenDance will help for the class showcase
- Maintaining relations with teachers
- I believe I’m a good communicator and I personally enjoy building/managing relationships
Thanks for reading and reach out to me if you have any questions about the above!
Hi everyone! I’m Meg, a second year Psychology student, hoping to be your new Liaison Officer! Over the past year, I've begun to question whether I'm actually doing a dance degree...and what better way to invest even more of my time in dance than by running for committee!
Having attended classes in a range of styles since the age of 3, I'm so excited by the teaching available at UCL. I believe the classes offered are an incredible opportunity for dancers of all levels and experiences to try out a variety of styles. I'd love the opportunity to handle the administrative side of these classes and work closely with the wonderful teachers who share their talent with us.
As Liaison Officer, I would strive to:
- Maintain the current timetable of classes/ensure we offer a high level of teaching in a range of styles.
- Offer regular workshops with industry professionals, covering new styles or choreography/teaching skills.
- Create opportunities for students to lead their own workshops so we can learn from the incredible talent around us!
- Ensure that everyone who attends classes and our teachers feel supported and able to share any thoughts/concerns they may have.
- Co-produce an excellent class showcase allowing all of our dancers to share their hard work throughout the year.
I really hope that you will consider voting for me to take on this role. Good luck to all candidates; I can’t wait to see the future of the best society at UCL (definitely unbiased)!
