Alice Wright

Hi! I’m Alice, and I would love to be your Communications Officer next year! As an English student, writing is pretty much my only raison d’etre (sorry I had to); having written various essays, speeches and articles, I know I will be able to keep the weekly mailer as engaging as it is informative. I have always been a confident communicator, whether it be through my experience competing in various debate and speech/drama competitions, liaising between staff and students as Head of House at my secondary school, and volunteering as an assistant coach at a sports club for disabled children, I absolutely adore meeting and working as a team with other people.

Having been an active member of the society, performing in Freshers, Blooms and the competition team, I have already established many connections throughout the society meaning my transition to Communications Officer will be a smooth one. I hope to use my established connections and experience of the society in order to develop the relationship between the committee and members, for example, using the mailer to keep members updated on decisions made by the committee (as much as possible). Thank you for your consideration!

Sarah Cassin

Hi I’m Sarah! I’m a first year geography student. Although this is my first year with dance society, I’ve tried to be a big part of it and throw myself into as many opportunities that have come my way. I’ve met so many amazing new people through shows and competitions and I would love to be an even bigger part of dance soc by joining committee next year as communications officer. I already love interacting and socializing with dance soc members and as communications officer I would have no problems keeping members updated with announcements from dance soc and answering messages and emails. I have good time management skills and organisation to keep on top of all my work and the amount of hours I seem to spend in the IOE for rehearsals ;) so I’m sure that staying on top of comms is something I will be able to handle. I’m comfortable chatting with anyone in dance soc so I’ll have no problem keeping you all updated with what’s going on. I also love reading the weekly mailer to see the achievements, upcoming events and random notes and would love to be in charge of it myself. I know this role will take time and require good organisation but I also think it would be great fun, highly rewarding and something I’d love to be committed to. Dance Society is a really welcoming and friendly environment and I would love to be a part of it even further next year.

Emma Last

Hey! I’m Emma and I would love to be Dance Soc’s next Communications Officer! Throughout my first year I’ve really enjoyed being involved in everything it offers, from the weekly classes and competition teams to dancing in every show and choreographing for Triple Bill! This familiarity means I’d be confident in effectively communicating all society events, answering questions, and staying updated on every aspect of the society.

Positions editing for several science publications and school/uni magazines have grown my written communication skills. Working as director of community engagement at an education guidance organisation, where I led/planned conferences with 1,000+ attendees, being a student rep, and leading a changemakers project here at UCL developed my leadership and project organisation abilities. I’m also constantly checking emails so have no doubt that I’d respond to enquiries very quickly! :)

My ideas are:

  1. Establishing a timetable with rehearsal/full cast times that can be easily synced to personal calendars
  2. Distributing tutorials by society members teaching basic moves on our social media pages/emails to encourage new members and beginners
  3. Using Facebook groups or the weekly mailers for dancers to sell and swap old dance shoes and clothes, increasing sustainability within the society
