Consulting Society: Treasurer

I have been serving as the marketing executive for our society for the past year. Through my experience, I have had the chance to observe the inner workings of UCLCS, working closely with other departments to ensure everything is run successfully. One thing I have noticed through this newly gained insight was how budget constraints affected the members' overall experience throughout the year. This is one of the key reasons I am running for Treasurer.

If elected, I will:

1. Collaborate closely with the Head of Sponsorships to ensure the maximum feasible funding through promotional events, rigorous networking, and partnerships with other societies,

2. Create detailed financial plans taking into account any possible disruptions,

3. Elevate the member experience through subsidised tickets and merchandise.

Through my involvement in European Youth Parliament, I gained an immense amount of experience on all fronts; organising a national session taught me how to efficiently allocate funds and resources to relevant parties. These skills must have been clearly demonstrated, as I was later selected to head organise another national event. As an officer in the national committee, I also had the chance to shadow the board members, learning how to draw up financial plans for organisations.

Hey guys, I’m Melodie, BSc Economics and Statistics student hoping to be your Treasurer. As a current student consultant at UCLCS, I've proactively engaged in UCLCS's events and found this society and open and supportive community, which I'd love to actively support, in turn, by taking on this role.

About why I fit this role…

• Worked as the sustainable consultant in UCLCS for a fintech startup, identifying new databases to compute and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and suggesting incentivisation and monetisation ideas.
• Shadowing the Treasurer as a FYR in another society, including attending meetings with sponsors, managing records of income and outgoing, brainstorming fundraising ideas.
• Strong quantitative skills in Excel, Python, and SQL and economics knowledge gained from my degree that allows me to deal with all money-related issues properly and have attention to details.

About my key goals…

• Reaching out to entrepreneurs and start-ups to seek a more diverse range of partnership opportunities.
• Properly balance and utilize our society’s accounts to bring a variety of fun events, activities, and workshops.
• Be responsible for the overall financial well-being of society both internally and externally, through collaborating closely with committee members.
