What is the connection between art and politics? Can the politics of an artwork be different than the politics of its artist? How did the role and meaning of art change through the history of modern society? Should a Left politics differentiate between "mass culture" and "high culture"? Should we "let people enjoy things", or is the culture industry tainted from the start by being "capitalist"? Is there progress and decline in culture, or are such conceptions outdated and conservative, perhaps even "Eurocentric"?
