Malayali Society: Treasurer

The role of treasurer in any society is an important one; one which requires experience and a very particular skill-set. Having been part of this committee for a year and given my background, I feel confident in taking on this role next year. Throughout the year I've understood various aspects of this society and the logistics of operating in a cost-effective way, e.g. working closely together to organise our Boat Party as well as other events in the year but more importantly, liaising with companies and businesses to help fund the costs of these events. At the heart of any leadership position are good communication and decision-making skills, which I have had the opportunity to build on throughout the last few years, be this through other society positions, sports and internships. I have previous experience of managing finances of events, e.g. occasions where I was put in charge of running fundraisers and charity events, and more recently, my own photography business, which calls for adept organisational and teamwork skills. A few things I will propose as treasurer for next year are, renewing society sponsorship packages and collaborating with companies in order to reduce membership fees and ticket prices! Moreover, I will make sure the budget is handled correctly and will periodically report back to the committee. Ultimately, this is a welcoming community for members to socialise and enjoy their time at uni and I vow to do my best to uphold that!
