Mahjong Society: President

As the Event Coordinator this year, I have participated and helped organised several events, ranging from our weekly socials to the inter-uni mahjong competition. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time connecting with members and want to extend to the next level by leading the society as the President. By pioneering a number of new events, I envision the society to become an inclusive and innovative space where all members, regardless of their cultural backgrounds, can freely network, learn, and immerse in the game and are blessed with the full enjoyment of it. My passion for mahjong, knowledge of its intricacies, and well-round skillset have formed a robust foundation, I believe, from which I am well qualified to lead.

As a passionate mahjong player and the Welfare Officer of the society, I am glad to see our society has taken great strides in extending its reach and holding a number of unprecedented events from the Chinese New Year social to the mahjong competition. I want to achieve new heights for the society by leading as the President and have come up with the following proposal which I hope you would resonate with:

• Regular weekly socials with better publicity and improved capacity by purchasing more mahjong sets with our fund
• Better assistance to first-time players and more active promotion of the game towards non-Chinese speakers
• More proactive outreach to other unis to organise events, competitions and socials
• Hotpot socials to allow members to get to know each other
