One of the hardest parts of the Life Science courses is the recent decision to make all our learning online, making it extremely difficult to make friends and socialise in our courses. This places heavier importance on societies like LSS to provide a space for students to socialise and engage with like-minded individuals. As vice president, My biggest goal is to enable more in-person conversations amongst students from various disciplines and years.
Unfortunately, LSS didn't organise many events this year, and I'll change that if elected. I want to organise talks and regular socials and expand our growth to reach the potential of this society. I aim to ensure that society members gain insight into various research fields, industries, and opportunities that the life sciences offer by reaching out to industry professionals, ensuring a balance between society's social and academic aspects. As vice-president, I have many goals, but a few I want to prioritise are:
- Monthly socials to promote opportunities to socialise
- Create a network of alumni to aid freshers with any struggles they face in their courses
- Recruiting 3 first-year representatives to be able to gain insight into organising events based on feedback from members
- More collaboration with the FLS and other science-based societies to enable interdisciplinary learning.
If elected, I'd prioritise expanding this society's growth to make it a fun place form connections and cultivate knowledge.
