I am running for President at UCL Law For All Society because I have a strong knowledge of becoming a lawyer in the UK through my past leadership and work experience, and I want to collaborate with aspiring lawyers. I have completed various legal insight and internships on various global law firms including White & Case LLP, King & Wood Mallesons LLP, and Wilson Sonsini LLP. As Head of Speakers for London Law Conference, I collaborated with colleagues on inviting various Senior Equity Partners from top Law firms to share their visions on the future of law including Skadden LLP, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, White & Case LLP, Paul, Weiss LLP. As President of another UCL Society, I also worked closely with colleagues on successfully hosting seminars with experts in their field.
If elected, I would prioritize various professional events and aspiring legal summits. I will invite trainees from prominent law firms on vacation scheme application advice, and host mock assessment centres by Associates through monthly workshops. I will also work collaboratively with Law Societies across the UK on organizing an annual legal summit that will invite Senior Equity Partners from prominent law firms and leaders from legal industries for providing their views on a legal career. Together, I believe that I can collaborate with friends through passion, goal determination, and efficiency that would provide a series of inspiring events in the upcoming 2022-2023 round.
Hi! I’m Vanessa, a penultimate year Arts & Sciences student and your commercial awareness officer, and I’m keen to be the President of Law for All Society! LFA made law more accessible and less intimidating to me when I was initially exploring law, so I’m excited to further this purpose!
As President, I look forward to fostering more community in our society, creating avenues of support in areas such as law applications, which can be stressful and difficult to navigate as non-law students. This will happen through in-person events alongside establishment of a dedicated online community forum. LFA will become a place where members find support amongst peers and help one another as we pursue careers in law.
Moreover, I’ll initiate more networking events with UCL alumni working in various areas of law. As a non-law student and a woman of colour, I find that seeing role models who are similar to me encouraged me to take my first steps into law, and I hope that our members feel included and inspired too. These events can be hosted in collaboration with other diversity related societies such as LGBT+ Students’ Network or 93% Club.
Finally, I’ll keep working on commercial awareness content with the new officers. I’m excited to continue the existing podcast and invite special alumni guests for a chat, and even bring the commercial awareness discussions in-person for all members to benefit from.
Thank you and I hope you’ll vote for me!
Hi everyone!
My name is Ambrine Pirbay-Katchera. I am a second year Philosophy, Politics and Economics student and I am running for the position of President.
If elected, I aim to develop LfA and support our members in entering the legal sector by:
Reinforcing the sense of community within the society by:
- Continuing to promote the society’s reputation of inclusivity and diversity
- Ensuring the organisation of frequent social events for our members
Expanding the range of opportunities available to our members to provide them with the best tools possible to enter the legal sector through:
- Expanding the range of events organised by the society such as career talks and mooting competitions
- Increasing the provision of volunteering opportunities to provide our members with alternative ways to develop legal experience
- Developing current opportunities within the society such as the blog and the commercial awareness podcast
I have been an active member of Law for All for the past two years, most recently through my participation in the UCL-Bristol mooting competition. In this time, LfA has played a key role in helping me develop fundamental skills and gain an understanding of law as a possible future career. I am trustworthy and hard-working, and I enjoy working in a team. I am eager at the idea of using my experience and skills to give back to the society as President.
I hope you will trust me with your vote!
Ambrine
Hey everyone, I’m Garbo! I'm a First-Year BA Philosophy student and I am standing for LfA society president because I’d like to bridge the gap between law enthusiasts at UCL and practising legal experts! Whether you aspire to be a solicitor, barrister or are undecided, I want to create a learning space where OUR team can support YOUR aspirations!
Further, as the current First Year Rep, I have been heavily involved in LfA’s Christmas moot, 10th-anniversary ball planning and commercial podcast to know how to continue its operational successes. Specifically, as one of the hosts, writers and editors of the LfA podcast on Spotify, I've helped our team reach 240+ listeners across 8 countries and hope to continue LfA's legacy. Put simply, a VOTE for GARBO is a VOTE for ACTIONABLE SUCCESS.
As President, I will run the following events:
- Networking with our law firm sponsors
- Application skills workshops
- Introductory sessions to legal practice areas
- Commercial awareness podcasts
- LfA society balls & socials
- (All great experiences for your work applications!)
