Next year I want to give Filmsoc members more opportunities; to make films independently, to learn and to have fun. To do this, I aim to:
1) Increase the budget cap and the total sum allocated for affiliate bids (money that members can apply for to make independent films), allowing many more of us to learn and independently experiment - a crucial experience for any filmmaker.
2) Run weekly workshops for all of our equipment. We have a lot of kit, but not many people know how to use it all. Wealth and connections can at times mean that members with more privileged prior experience get chosen for term films and docs over others. I want to set this straight with education, and level the playing field.
3) Increase new social events (e.g. nights at UCL bars after screenings or workshops) to allow for more frequent, relaxed interactions for chatting and networking.
My greater aim is to remove the potential fear of some members who hesitate to get involved because they do not think they know enough about film. The more we create a constructive, relaxed atmosphere, the more we will grow as a society. As the Treasurer for 21/22, and, with my substantial experience with technology and cameras, as well as experience directing and producing an award-winning short, I believe I am the person that can best assist you as President. I am driven, dedicated, and incredibly keen to work with you to make Filmsoc as beneficial and fair as it can be. Click here for more
Hi! I’m Dominic Ko, an incoming third year law student. It is my privilege to have served the society over the years as a Socials Producer, writer on our blog and crew in our society’s film production.
After some socially challenging times, it fills me with pride to help bring back some normalcy with our events. Through cinema excursions, tours, mixers and games, I have worked hard to enrich the student experience in Film & TV Society and connect the plurality of diverse personalities here. Behind the scenes, I have also contributed by liaising with a film festival director and co-drafted our Society’s Studio Rules.
Having been involved in every aspect of the society – from reviews, to screenings and production, and having personally sought out our members’ feedback during our events, I believe I have a broad understanding of how our society can grow.
Having been President of societies such as UCL Communication Society and a Lieutenant during my military service, I believe I have the aptitude and attributes to contribute. I aspire to continue our positive working relationship with the Student Union and build on the goodwill to update our equipment and budget. I am committed to create more opportunities for everyone to get involved regardless of skill level, and across the wide spectrum of motion picture appreciation.
With your trust and faith in me, we will take UCL Film & TV Society a step further in its long and rich history - Votedomo.com
